Developed by the University of South Florida for use with youth residential facilities, this framework is relevant to and similar to long-term care facilities.

This guide, published in 2023 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), updates SAMHSA’s 2014 publication, which was referenced in the CMS 2016 regulations.
Implementing Trauma-Informed Care: A Guidebook
Published by LeadingAge Maryland and designed specifically to assist nursing homes with advancing trauma-informed care, this guidebook offers background information, a checklist, and a preliminary organizational assessment. Special considerations for nursing homes include sections on major neurocognitive disorders/dementia, physicians and contracted employees, and implications for short- and long-stay residents.
